Well, this is all a bit shit isn't it?
How are you all doing?
Here's a visual representation of how I feel about it all:
I still can't quite believe it's all happening. Every morning I wake up and briefly forget what is going on in the world.
In our house we've been trying to delicately balance everyone's needs with the new stricter rules around social distancing. My children are 3 and 5 years old and have a LOT of energy but we're very lucky to have a small back garden where they can blow off steam. We make sure to go out for a long walk around the field next to our house every day, chasing the dog makes them very tired!
As a lot of you know, I'm a nurse in the NHS so I've been continuing to go to work. Whilst its a stressful and uncertain place to be, it is nice to still have some of my usual routine intact as well as a protected income. I'm aware that's a privilege right now.
I'm absolutely gutted that we've had to cancel all of Testify's live events for the foreseeable future but I'm so happy with the online community we've managed to create!
I hosted our first night via Zoom last week. We had 25 people dial in, both poets and observers, and shared some really great work. It was awesome to welcome some people who don't usually manage to get to Testify, including a poet from Manilla!
We've also started a Facebook group. I've been posting daily writing prompts and submissions and members have been posting their poetry in response! I've been blown away by the work created and shared every day. Everyone is really engaging and encouraging each other.
I've been finding it really hard to write during this lockdown, my headspace has been so full of anxiety that I've been struggling to get anything on paper but the daily prompts and no pressure environment has meant that I've scribbled a few things in my notebook.
The situation with COVID-19 has had a huge impact on small businesses and that includes the best-venue-in-the-world, Hanky Panky Pancakes. Please support them if you can! You can do that in two ways:
1. Order takeaway via their website
2. Buy a gift voucher so you have an amazing meal waiting for you once all this is over!
Thank you for sticking with Testify during this worrying time. We know that everyone is being affected in one way or another.
Stay safe, be kind to yourself and we'll see you once all this is over
I'll be continuing to post the daily prompts throughout lockdown so if you want to join the Facebook group, you can do so here: https://buff.ly/2QqyRqV
We're going to do another virtual poetry night on Zoom. The Facebook event can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/events/560520774842045/
